Far Beyond The Sun

It is hot today.  And it is very sunny.  Like most folks I am thinking about someplace far from here where it is cool and the rock is driving the guys with the seismographs crazy.

Yngwie Malmsteen shows us that the melodies of heaven flow from the frets of some guitars with his Far Beyond The Sun.  Peace on earth and for now I’ll have another popsicle.

Slavin’ Away

It’s mid-week and I’m sure we are all starting to grow weary of our slavin’ away.  Well, at least we gotta act that way so the man will think he is winning.  I sorta like what I do, espescially now that I work for myself.  The objective setting sessions and the periodic performance reviews are much more fun now.  You a dumb ass.  Oh no I ain’t.  Actually, you are the king of the world.  You bet I am.  We’re going to double your bonus.  Thanks, but twice nothing is still nothing.  Anyway, for now I am kicking back and listening to Thieves & Liars “Slavin’ Away”.

Another Brick In The Wall

I am not another brick in the wall.  I don’t need no education.  I don’t need no thought control.  I’ll take some rock and roll – really loud please.  And I don’t mind having a log to saw on every now and then.  And I definitely need meat – lots of good old red meat, smoked fiercely but not cooked beyond a warm center.  And about a gallon of iced tea and then 12 cups of coffee.  That will make a fine day – at least fine enough.  A piece of pie would be a real bonus.  I am not a brick in the wall.

Hard Living Man

Life is not so hard if you just focus on what needs to get done and do it.  Now some of us do on occasion step up to big tasks or some activities that are quite out of the ordinary.  Most folks call those things hard and having to do them a hard life.  If you  know the pleasure of cutting logs and getting them out of the deep forest you understand how nice it is that the “average” folk think this is hard.  The things I like to do are challenging for most but it’s better to live hard than to hardly live.  We should all say a special prayer for those necktie wearing cubicle dwellers who, if they were as smart as they tell you they are, wouldn’t be stuck slaving in a box.

Da Doo Ron Ron

Friday Flashback – the Crystals singing Da Doo Ron Ron.  If this brings back fond memories, that is great – it also means you are getting on in years (not quite a miracle of modern medicine, but approaching that).  Music today has a different kind of pop and zing but the eloquent undertones of the Crystals will never fade in their charm.  Da Doo Ron Ron.

Get Your Hands Dirty

Done.  “Done” is my favorite word.  I have neither time nor desire to hear what someone is hoping to do or fixing to do.  Most times the words hoping to and fixing to are just signals that we are hearing fantasy.  This is just like when someone tells you they are trying to quit smoking.  It is true, they are trying to quit and by saying it that way, when they don’t quit they can assure us they “tried”.  The only way to get something done is to do it.  That means expending energy and actually doing work (yes, the force times distance type).  Get your hands dirty, work up a sweat and then enjoy “Get Your Hands Dirty” by Jettblack.  A true friend is one who shares what he or she “did” today.  Actions speak louder than words.

Shout!

While I was working in the shop this evening I kept hearing the song “Shout!”  I don’t have any idea how adjusting, sorting and stacking tools would trigger this.  “Shout!” is a great tune.  I like the original Isley Brothers version – from 1959 – and I like Lulu’s cover.  Both are shared here for you listening pleasure.  If you still here this song playing in your head when you wake up tomorrow, just Shout!

La Grange

I was making sweet music with my pick today – my pick mattock that is.  I chopped and pried and wrangled and dragged and got my backyard to looking like I beat it up.  So now I am ready for a little unwinding and for tonight that is with the boys from ZZ Top and their picking of La Grange.

La Grange

OK, they started it so here goes – Tush

Tush

My pick is made of steel and hickory.  With these tunes in my head we’ll need fewer breaks tomorrow.  Have mercy.
